Announcement of completion of Nguyen Dynasty Woodblocks Conservation Project

Royal printing woodblocks of Nguyen Dynasty are valuable heritage in several aspects such as history, geography, socio-political, military, legal, educational, cultural, modern times. It records the economic and cultural trade between Vietnam and countries around the world such as the United States, France, Spain, China, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, etc. The Royal printing woodblocks of Nguyen Dynasty are closely related to woodblocks that exist in East Asian countries like China, Japan and South Korea. In addition to the historical value, the woodblocks are also valuable in the art of crafting, demonstrating the development of woodblock printing of civilization and human culture. Because of these important properties, the Royal printing woodblocks of Nguyen Dynasty were named as a World Document Heritage on July 31, 2009. This is also the first World Heritage Document of Vietnam.

In July 2020, The Ambassador's Fund for Cultural Preservation 2020 has officially approved a grant submitted by the State Records & Archives Department of Vietnam under the Ministry of Home Affairs to conserve 500 deteriorated the Nguyen Dynasty Woodblocks in the National Archives Center, No.4 in Da Lat City, Lam Dong province, a testament to the quality of the proposal and the importance of the Nguyen Dynasty Woodblocks to world documentary heritage.
