Training Course on Wood Processing and Utilization of Small-Diameter Timbers in Lao PDR

This training program features an intensive weeklong lecture, workshop, and study visits (from 20-24/8/2024). The program coordinated by the Forest Research Center of NAFRI, and the lectures were taught by specialists in related topics from NAFRI and other related agencies, including the private sector. The lectures covered a multidisciplinary range of topics related to wood processing enterprises and timber utilization from plantations, including forest afforestation and restoration through promoting plantation establishment and conserving natural forests. In particular, the main objectives of this training course are to:

 

• Illustrate the current status of wood processing enterprises in Lao PDR. This achieved by providing participants with an overview of the industry, including its history, current state, and future prospects.

 

• Identify opportunities for synergy and harmonization between wood processing and plantation timber utilisation. This will be achieved by discussing the benefits of using plantation timber, and the challenges that need to be addressed to make this a reality.

 

• Build capacity in the area of wood processing and timber utilization from plantations. This will be achieved by providing participants with training on a range of topics, including sustainable forest management, wood processing technology, and market development.

 

• Provide an opportunity to share knowledge, ideas, and recommend future plans on the wood processing enterprise and promoting the efficient of timber utilization from plantations. This achieved through lectures, workshops, and study visits.
