Summary The article presents the results of the assessment of the current damage status of archaeological wood excavated at the Thang Long Imperial Citadel relic site conducted in 2021. The results of the study to identify wood species and assess the current damage status of 12 archaeological wood samples show the diversity of wood species and the level of damage. The results show that there are 04 types of wood: Trom, Lim xanh and Com. The results of the assessment of the level of damage show that among the studied samples, Tau and Lim xanh wood are quite intact. Based on the assessment criteria, these archaeological wood samples are classified as slightly damaged. Meanwhile, the Trom and Com wood samples were both quite severely damaged, classified as medium to severe. This is the basis for developing a long-term abro treatment process for each type and level of damage of wooden relics.
